Sports Data Labs Secures US Patent For Real-Time Heart Rate Measurements

Sports Data Labs (SD Labs), a venture-backed, award-winning leader in the collection, analysis, and distribution of real-time human data from on-body sensors, has achieved a milestone with the grant of U.S. Patent No. 11,850,053 by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

The patent approves their advanced system and method for real-time heart rate measurement using ECG-based sensors.

The sensors are specifically designed for individuals with high activity levels, for example, professional athletes, in non-laboratory environments.

The patented technology leads the way in a new era of precision in health monitoring. Its high sampling effectiveness allows for accurate heart rate measurements during intense activity.

This precision becomes significant in the context of professional sports, where even the smallest of inaccuracies could have major implications.

Beyond accuracy, the patent also presents an innovative method for detecting and replacing missing or outlier data with synthetic data.

This feature enhances the reliability of biological sensor data, making it a robust tool for real-time monitoring.

With a term extension until March 2041, this patent validates SD Labs’ position at the forefront of generative AI applications in industries such as sports.

In the past, SD Labs has partnered with the Case Western Reserve University School of Law on a research lab and NFL Players Association on initiatives to commercialize player performance data.
